The Taste

“This Cuvee “Margaux” is from a lesser-known vineyard, the coast of Couchois in the west of Mercurey and South of Hautes Cotes de Beaune. Pinot Noir coming from a hill opposite the castle of Couches, facing south, 200 to 300 metres above sea level gives us this beautiful intense black cuvee. Full wine with aromas of black fruit, elderberry, blackberry, evolving with time on notes of tobacco and liquorice”.
Thierry Bied, Winemaker.

Full bottle 1,278 g.
A domaine started (revived) in 2012 by Frédérique de Cardon de Sandrans. First vintage 2015. All estate grown, made and bottled. The bunches are completely de-stemmed, macerated for 48 hours prior to fermentation before fermenting for seven to 10 days in vats, with continuous pumping over of the must. The wine is then aged in barriques for a minimum of seven to nine months.

A neat, pert little wine — red cherries on the nose, a touch of anise. And then darker fruited on the palate, just of the edge of tart; sharp pomegranate ping points, an interesting twist of leather and then there’s a fresh scented bite of green peppercorns and sweet basil right at the back of the throat. This is just delicious! Remarkably savoury and layered for a bourgogne at this price. This sample ended up on the table, and everyone reached for a second glass without even thinking. A total no-brainier if you want a GV bourgogne.

The Corky Verdict

We proudly work with Domaine de Cardon to import their latest wines. These fantastic wines are not available elsewhere in the UK.

Amy –This is an exceptional pinot noir from an exceptional vintage!

Sam –I absolutely love this… deep ruby, delicate fruit (black cherry and strawberry) with a rustic character on the nose, grippy tannins with more cherry leading into a dry finish. Thoroughly enjoyable now after decanting and will age beautifully over the next few years. A stunning wine at a fantastic price point.

The Producer

Domaine de Cardon is located 30 kilometers from Beaune, in Dracy le Fort, in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise.

The Cardon de Sandrans family has its origins in 12th century Spain, when its name was Cardona. In the 19th century, the Cardon de Sandrans family settled in the Lyon region and owned the Domaine de la Roche Cardon just outside Lyon, before settling in Dracy-Le-Fort in Burgundy. The estate was split in the middle of the 20th century.

In 2012, their descendant, Frédérique de Cardon de Sandrans, decided to revive the tradition and values of the Cardon de Sandrans family by creating a wine estate. With the help of Thierry Bied, sharing the same ideals and the same love of wine, they founded Domaine de Cardon in 2013. Today, the estate’s vineyard covers 20 ha and includes 14.5 ha. currently exploited for wine production. The cultivated grape varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Aligoté, the only grape varieties authorized in Burgundy and Gamay in Beaujolais.

The estate produces the following appellations: Chiroubles, Beaujolais Village, Aligoté “Vieille Vignes”, Burgundy White “Les 4 Parcelles”, Burgundy Red “Margaux”, Burgundy Red “Les Gardes” Mercurey Village White “Roc Blanc”, Mercurey Village Red “Roche Cardon “, Mercurey Premier Cru” Croichots “and Crémant “Eminent “.

Having, since its creation, the desire to work and produce wines with respect for the environment and the consumer, the Estate has put in place all the processes allowing it to obtain the “Terra Vitis” certification since the 2020 harvest and ” HVE “from the 2021 harvest.
